Manzone! Heartbreakingly awesome BAROLO Gramolere from the fine, fine folks at Manzone, 95 POINTS no less – now THAT is the sort of offer that proves Saturday is the BEST day of the week!

OH MAN, wait until you pop this. THE NOSE! Pure, unfiltered, Barolo majesty, room-filling aromas with flavors that back it all up and then some!!! Black cherries, and plums, and blackberries, with roasted fennel, macerated strawberries, candied violets, new leather, Chinese five spice, tangerine oil…just hold on tight, folks! This is rocking and rolling with plenty of grip and intensity, all wrapped around a juicy, floral, elegantly nuanced core of classic nebbiolo sensations! Stunningly, and I mean stunningly approachable for a young Barolo – this will thrive and expand over the next decade plus without question…but MY WORD!!! Just incredible today. Get enough so that you can pop open a bottle IMMEDIATELY when this arrives. Give it a swirl, stick that nose in, and just BREATHE! Ah…isn’t Barolo just the best?!?! Especially Manzone...and their epic Gramolere – at our amazing PRICE!!!

It’s enough to bring tears to an old Barolo lover's eye. What can I say? Have you HAD any of the older Manzones you bought from us?! (More on that later…) They are singing, so big and fresh and crazy-complex, and this one is right up there with the best I’ve ever tasted! I have BOXES of these beauties and whenever Barolo is on the menu – this is the stuff I dive for! (Agnolotti del Plin on the menu…soon!)

“Gramolere” is the vineyard facing the winery in Monforte d’Alba (epically beautiful, I might add) – where 35-year-old vines thrive on a steep slope with rocky, sandy soils loaded with fossils. The 2018 Barolo vintage has developed a reputation for being almost Burgundian – supple, aromatic, and softer than the classic, will-age-forever Barolo vintages like 2016…but that is not a BAD THING!!! Six years in and this is SINGING – wonderful weight and exceptional balance that is about as sexy as young Barolo gets! UNDER $50 for this?!?!  AHHHH! Do what must be done…just be sure that you get a few!!!

“The 2018 Barolo Gramolere is the most linear and intensely aromatic of the three 2018 Barolos in the range. It offers up an exciting mix of bright red fruit intermingled with scents of leather, iron, dried herbs and white pepper that lend brightness. The clean, bracing finish is a thing of beauty. This classically austere Barolo is superb. Give the tannins a year or two to soften.”

About The Producer

The Giovanni Manzone estate in Monforte d’Alba has been around since 1925 and continues to be a family affair, today run by father, daughter, and son. With 7 hectares planted with vines, the estate totals 13.5 hectares, most of which are in the Barolo appellation with 2 Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA) appropriated for Barolo, Castelletto, and Gramolere. Both are ideal environments for excellent grape growing due to poor soils and meager organic matter. Natural and non-invasive agriculture are priorities, as are traditional-style winemaking practices with an emphasis on small productions of about 45,000 bottles per year.
