Domaine de Poulvarel Costieres de Nimes Les Gres 2020 - Last Bottle

Domaine de Poulvarel Costieres de Nimes Les Gres 2020

Look who’s back! The rainmaker, the light bringer, the heralded savior, and the prince that was promised – Domaine de Poulvarel!!! Bringing back the Happy Dance 'cause this is my new favorite daily drinker…TWELVE DOLLARS!?! Are we for real?

Domaine de Poulvarel is one of the finest wineries for price/quality ratio we have EVER found on our European exploits. They just keep giving us gorgeous, powerful, beautifully-made, classic reds. 52% OFF!!! How’s that for QPR (quality-price ratio… and this is off the charts!)!?!? 2020 is yet another SPECTACULAR vintage in the Rhone (one that Decanter calls “...fresh, balanced – a return to classicism") and as ever, you can bet on this like the sun rising tomorrow – this fantastic, gutsy, savory red is hard to believe at anywhere near this price, period. You should see how many Napa/Sonoma winemakers order this stuff in full-case quantities – it's just that good. This small, family-run Domaine located near the famous Roman aqueduct called the Pont Du Gard, built in the 1st century AD in Southern France (SW of Chateauneuf-du-Pape), just keeps on CRUSHING it. Amazing.

"Les Grès" is beefed-up Chateauneuf-du-Pape in style (darker, more voluptous and energetic), with a wildly diverse basket of Mediterranean flavors....smoky bacon, chocolate dipped blueberries, blackberry preserves, baked strawberries, black cherry, crushed rock, star jasmine, mint, fennel fronds, black olive tapenade, with sweet spices like cinnamon and white pepper… sliding into a big, round, wild texture, with great freshness, verve and length. WOWEEE, this is rocking! These ORGANIC grapes are grown in the same ‘rolled pebbles’ you’ll find in Chateauneuf and just scream with the taste of the land, the wind, and these marvelous people. OK, enough, enough, we're going to run out… like we do every year. If this doesn’t get you through your hump day, nothing will!

You simply must taste this insane value for yourself and then say: “I shoulda bought more….” While it lasts..!

About The Producer

It is impossible to dissociate the Poulvarel Estate from Elisabeth and Pascal Glas. And for good reason, in 2004, while Pascal worked in wine estates for 25 years, they decided to create their own winery on family lands. What could seem like a crazy bet at that moment, is now a well defended bet. The vintages of the estate are among the "award-winning" wines of the region and are "noticed" by the specialized press. Pascal passed on his passion for wine to Elisabeth and together they had the audacity to launch and the will to continue. They have united their strength, their differences, their know-how and now offer wines worthy of the best tables. On a filtering soil of pebbles Villafranchian Rhôdanien type mindélien, Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre give wines with strong expression of terroir and a unique character. In the place of POULVARELS on shallower and gravelly soils , sauvignons, cabernet and merlot offer typical wines, fruity and surprisingly sweet. Building with modern geometry, designed with Pont du Gard stones and a modern and insulating cladding. The combination of materials used has been studied to obtain an optimal temperature of breeding and conservation.
