Giovanni Manzone Barolo Castelletto 2015 - Last Bottle

Giovanni Manzone Barolo Castelletto 2015

Can you say “More MANZONE”!?! Well, time to stand up on the bar/kitchen table and SCREAM it! Another whopping 95 POINTS – this time from the revered Castelletto Cru…Manzone just KILLS it...Every. Damn. Time!

$40 BELOW retail makes this too good to even think about passing up. And that TIME in bottle!!! Oh my, this is EPIC. The delicacy. The power. The complexity. This is everything you could want in a Barolo – all in pristine balance. SCORE! Gorgeous aromatics of dried roses, and black tea, and cranberries, with some autumnal forest duff whispering in the wind…then! Then, you taste – and this EXPLOSION of youthfulness comes rushing in – the candied violets, the macerated strawberries, crushed raspberries, blueberry pie, and red cherry notes! It’s intense…in the absolute best possible way. A rush of warming spices – star anise, clove, white pepper, nutmeg with this nice, perfectly ripe fig element that just holds and holds.

This is making me very, very smiley and happy…but!!! We don’t have much (and honestly didn’t expect to move through all the 2018 Gramolere sooo quickly)! But here…we…go!!! Get two, three, or twelve – there’s simply no number that could ever be enough…so just get as many as you can! Gorgeously aged Cru Barolo at this price?! INCONCEIVABLE!!!

A father/daughter/son operation, the family walks the line between traditional and modern, with unbelievably complex and intense results.

About The Producer

The Giovanni Manzone estate in Monforte d’Alba has been around since 1925 and continues to be a family affair, today run by a father, daughter, and son. With 7 hectares planted with vines, the estate totals 13.5 hectares, most of which are in the Barolo appellation with 2 Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA) appropriated for Barolo, Castelletto, and Gramolere. Both are ideal environments for excellent grape growing due to poor soils and meager organic matter. Natural and non-invasive agriculture are priorities, as are traditional-style winemaking practices with an emphasis on small productions of about 45,000 bottles per year.
