Francois Lurton Bodega Piedra Negra Chacayes 2017

Collectors! Aficionados of the finest Malbecs on this planet, and lovers of mega-savvy deals from Maine to the Catalina Islands (home of the Catalina Wine Mixer), today is your day! SOMEHOW we collided into this insane buy -- 98 POINTS, Valle de Uco Malbec from the legendary LURTON family at a price that brings a tear of vinous joy to the eye. Wow!

It’s rare to see this wine at all, frankly, but priced like this?? What happened was this: Lurton, of course, is a powerhouse in Bordeaux and because we did a big deal on some of the Bordeaux, we were graced, blessed and allowed to have a little of the seriously rare stuff in the lineup --- THIS. Grown at 3000+ feet in the Uco mountains near Mendoza, this is 90% Malbec, 10% Cabernet, and 500% wow-you level flavors.

Deep blue and percolating with heady blue fruits, there’s just an insane amount of stuff for your brain and mouth to unpack --- espresso, dried flowers, roses, molasses, anise, cigar box, cola, and a cool minty note...super long and complex, with a round, polished feel. SEXY! The PRICE!! Where ya gonna find 98-point big guns like this for this price??? Nowhere but a little warehouse in Napa, CA -- that’s it!!

***Even though we bought a lot of Bordeaux, we got a FRACTION of this trophy. Click QUICK! Did we mention 98 points?***

Ruby red colour with hints of cherry. Complex with a mixture of red berry and spice aromas, plus a hint of black pepper. Some delicate chocolate and coffee notes from maturation in oak barrels. A well-structured, complex wine with pleasant tannins that add softness and a lingering finish. The spices join forces with toasted notes and the red fruit characteristic of Malbec.

About The Producer

Francois Lurton embodies the fourth generation of winegrowers in this great family which has been producing wines in the Bordeaux region since 1897.His great-grandfather, before embarking on wine, produced and before him his ancestors, spirits in the Bordeaux region and this since the middle of the XIX century.François is one of those characters that we would like to enclose in a history and a past all traced but for whom only "Requirement" remains the key word. Today excellence leaves no room for chance. You have to be natural, neat and attentive: "Nature will only express itself if we give it the means". The expression of the terroirs is made by innovative techniques, a sharp know-how, a hint of daring, a lot of rigor and sensitivity, a tenacious commitment in favor of organic culture, all that characterizes François Lurton.
