Domaine Juliette Avril Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Maxence 2017

FINALLY! The container from France is HERE, and oh my, my CHATEAUNEUF, my love, it has been tooooo long!! Wine Advocate 93 POINTS and over 50% OFF, wooooo hoooo!

Put on a supa-dope jam when you pop this, ‘cause it’s a doozy that’ll get you all revved up, not to mention our wicked-nice price, of course! OK, sorry, we gotta go there now -- the insanity of the raspberry and kirsch-like liqueur! You know those plastic ball pits at amusement parks that kids love? Well imagine it full of red berries and you’re trying to do laps. And PLUMS! And that ethereal, sweet-wild-herbs-on-the-wind thing the French call “garrigue” - rosemary, mint, thyme, anise….a bit of toast from the oak barrel, all nicely balanced and happy-making. YES!

Whew! We needed that. Fun fact: Founded in 1927, the Avril family was actually involved in the actual creation of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation. We tasted this many months ago, loved it and said: “hook us up.” Glory be, it’s here!! So --- happy Saturday, y’all! 93 POINTS! Will fly out….

The top wine of the estate - from a single estate of old vines. 100% Grenache,  undergrowth, truffle, toast, light notes of vanilla; red fruit: redcurrants, raspberries, sour cherries, maintaining a fresh acidity and endless length on the palate. The complexity of a fine Pinot Noir but the power of a mighty Rhone wine.

About The Producer

The Domaine Juliette Avril’s roots run long and deep.

As First Consuls of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Avril family has cultivated centuries of winegrowing and Provençal tradition. A century after Frédéric Mistral, our ancestor, Jules Avril, was awarded the “Golden Cicada”, symbol of the prestigious title of “Majoral du Félibrige”, the Academy of the Provençal language…As early as 1928, before the Appellation of Controlled Origin (A.O.C.) was officially introduced, Juliette Avril’s father, Jean Avril, along with other local notable figures, participated in establishing fundamental rules for developing Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine.

In 1988, Marie Lucile Brun took over management of the estate, succeeding her mother, Juliette Avril. Her son, Stephan Brun, joined her in 2000 to head the estate’s commercial, administrative and viticulture departments.
