The Man. The Myth. The Legend. Sean Thackrey. The all-time great philosopher king of California winemakers! If you’ve never experienced a Thackery wine, have you ever lived?!?! This is a wine to leave you trembling, to walk in the shadows of giants, to gaze across an endless ocean, deep into the abyss – beyond time, beyond the veil. What the hell am I talking about? No idea. But that’s the point! This man was amongst the planet's most iconic, offbeat, history-obsessed, well-dressed, and brilliantly talented (and whimsical) winemakers. Sean was…basically…the antithesis of corporate wine-making. A bohemian, an artist, a poet – a Bacchus incarnate who lived among us for but a while. What might be in this blend? Syrah, sangiovese, mourvedre, barbera, carignane, petite sirah, viognier, PLUS saurian brandy, pixie dust, moondust, alien yeast from Jupiter...just kidding – it’s normal grapes, but a different and unknown blend every year. The only pursuit Sean ever pursued in winemaking was pleasure. No laws, no tried and true methodology…pleasure. And boy, does this DELIVER!

Bolinas is where Sean started his label over 40 years ago, almost immediately gaining cult status amongst the vino cognoscenti of the Bay Area and beyond…even though he never made more than a few thousand cases. This new release of Pleiades XXIX Old Vines (the 29th, if your Roman is lacking) is perhaps the most approachable, delicious, impossible-to-stop-sipping release yet! Crunchy-bright red fruits, rhubarb, raspberry, kirsch, licorice, red flowers, even a Chateauneuf-du-Pape-like note of sweet fennel…fresh and balanced and terrifyingly easy to sip with bohemian ease!! SO STOKED to have this in da house (for a bit, anyway!) Sean has made tons of high-scoring, collectible, and amazingly hard-to-find wines over the decades (all named after constellations). We’re just speechless to have this jaw-dropper of a price! My advice…GET A LOT. This really is iconic juice, and there's never enough to go ‘round…
