The tears! All the way-too-hip-to-Poulvarel Last Bottle mega-savvy peeps are already dropping a case in their carts, but for the great unwashed, this is PROBABLY, definitely, surely quite simply one of the THE great red values on this planet or any other (not counting Saurian brandy) and brings grown men and women to their knees in joy on the regular. DO. NOT. MISS if you love southern Rhone -- Poulvarel is a gift to the world!!! Oh, and 93 points to boot...

Whew! OK, here's the deets: This wine is Poulvarel's top cuvee, named after the ancient tunnels near the property (more on that below) and is BIG, bold, unapologetically dark and intense, and a ridiculous, screaming, no-brainer deal. When we drink it, we imagine the deep, powerful voice of James Earl Jones (Darth Vader and “THIS is CNN”) saying: “This Syrah is redolent of the potent essence of blue fruit”. It reaches into your soul. Syrah, Grenache, Carignan with resonating deep color and mineral character, deep dark black cherry and fig, licorice, sweet herbs, Asian spices, savory and gutsy. They recommend serving it with slow cooked lamb and so do we. OWWWWeeee that's good!

This small Domaine located near the famous Roman aqueduct called the Pont Du Gard, built in the 1st century AD (boom) in Southern France (SW of Chateauneuf-du-Pape), (which annually does an amazing laser show, by the way) is one of our proudest discoveries over the years. They seem to make wine with some sort of magic Roman elixir that charges your taste buds with energy and life. And for the price we can offer it to you? C’mon!!! Insane! Read this far?
