Cerro Petit Verdot Napa Valley 2015

However...if you like ‘em dark and brooding and fireworks-exploding with polished black/blue fruits and tons of rich texture...dudes, you GOTTA get this!!! Rutherford Petit Verdot! What what?!!

The deets --- the talented Derek Beitler is the mind behind this label (we sold his utterly fantastic Cerro Red a few months back, to tons of stellar raves...) -- he’s a nephew to Chuck Wagner of Caymus fame and has wine in his blood --he worked summers at Caymus as a kid (with cousins Joe, Charlie, and Jenny). He also created the wildly popular Carne Humana and Skyhook labels, for those in the know. This Petit Verdot from Rutherford is one of the best we have tasted -- it’s big, yes, and Petit is a DARK, intense grape, but Derek has rounded it into a shockingly good, mouthfilling wonder.

Stoked beyond belief to score this. Petit Verdot is such a cool thing in the right hands. Big, bold, smoky, spicy, dark, oaky, tannic, and intense – although floral aromas of violets and irises give the wine finesse and grace. You will LOVE it, the price is crazy, and it’s just such a cool thing to own, love, drink, share and talk about!! While it lasts...!

With yet another nearly-perfect 2015 growing season in Napa Valley, vintners celebrated abundant yields and a third-straight vintage of world-class quality. In spite of (or perhaps due in part to) the ongoing drought, a warm, dry spring gave grapevines a jump start on their March emergence. Ideal conditions continued throughout summer, offering most producers the luxury of selecting their ideal time to harvest. Half of the fruit for this vintage was sourced from the namesake Cerrito Block, a meter-by-meter vineyard planted along the eastern edge of Rutherford AVA, with the balance coming from another vineyard eight miles south, in the Oak Knoll District.
