Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc North Coast 2015 - Last Bottle

Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc North Coast 2015

Oh yes, hardcore L+R fans, it is BACK! The classic -- possibly one of the single-most revered and loved Cab Francs in the USA! An “insider”, locals-fave if we’ve EVER seen one. Amazing price! 91 POINTS! Load up, we say!! Best price by far you will EVER see -- only bummer is how many cases we have...this is a serious, delicious, ultimate crowd-pleaser from the Skupny family that MUST be tasted (and you'll want to get more than you think!).

John and Tracey Skupny are the affable, fascinating, congenial and generous winemakers behind this much-beloved Napa producer of world-class Cabernet Franc, and those words could easily describe their luscious, classy, lithe and can’t-put-it-down wines (they make a superb Chenin Blanc, too). You’ve probably had it at your favorite local higher-end restaurant --- somms love it, as Cab Franc (especially this warm, spicy one) has plenty of food-pairing possibilities. Here at Last Bottle, we drink it with and without food, and have (for a decade) considered it the go-to on many a local wine list. Anyway, the wine! You are going to LOVE it --- trust your besotted online wine merchant!

Instant happiness. In the bright, warm, structured 2015 vintage James Suckling said: "Fresh violets, herbs, elderberries, licorice and spices. The palate is grainy and somewhat edgy with firm tannins, fine acidity and a pretty finish." We get cool, sweet plums, mineral, and a dash of complex spices (think spearmint, maybe, or lavender...). EXCEPTIONAL, terrific price...what can we say? We love you L&R! Astounding price!! Wow! While it lasts, you guys!!

The 2015 North Coast Cabernet Franc shows a hint of blue violet on the rim of its color. The aromatics are
typical of Cabernet Franc: berry fruit, floral and lightly herbaceous top notes. The flavors follow suit with more
of a strawberry jam fruit impression that’s countered with a hint of ‘sous- bois’ (forest floor earthiness). All of
this is wrapped in gentle, balancing tannins, which help to keep the flavors lengthy and satisfying. Though
crafted for immediate enjoyment, it has the capacity to age gracefully.

About The Producer

The foundation of their wine experience began almost 40 years ago while working in the restaurant trade in Kansas City. They were trained in the classics: fine wine, fine food, and fine service. Having attained positions as wine stewards (sommeliers), the lure of vineyards and wineries brought them to California in 1980, settling finally in the Napa Valley by 1984.

The Skupnys became intrigued by the magnitude of distinction Cabernet Franc held from notable wine regions in France: Loire Valley and Bordeaux. The early 80’s in Napa Valley found vintners utilizing Bordeaux varieties as components of their red wine blends, and Cabernet Franc was a key varietal. Its critical contribution led Tracey and John to explore the broad range of aromatics and flavors emerging from Cabernet Franc.

Inspired on this journey, the Skupnys set out to produce a Cabernet Franc that was ‘true to type’, redolent in aroma, and pure in flavor with, structure and balance. In 1993, a prototype was crafted, Lang & Reed Wine Company was born, and the rest is history.
