Chateau Baret Blanc Pessac-Leognan 2016

Thunder roars but does not strike. Lightning strikes but does not roar. Choose to be lightning.” Matshona Dhliwayo

BE LIGHTNING. Drink it, especially -- thrilling, electrifying 91-92 POINT Sauvignon Blanc from Bordeaux --- Pessac-Leognan to be specific (land of legendary whites from Chateau Haut-Brion, La Mission Smith Haut Lafitte and more...)! Well OVER 50% OFF! Boom!

We’ve been waiting patiently for this EPIC VINTAGE (2016) to arrive - well, the truck showed up yesterday! Woo hoo! This is a wildly affordable luxury at our STELLAR price, oh yes --- zingy and oh-so-fresh and complex. Chateau Baret is a well-known and respected property in this appellation, now owned by the Ballande family for over two CENTURIES (winemaking overseen by prominent University of Bordeaux professor and consultant Denis Dubordieu), and the wines regularly score very highly considering its $40-ish price tag -- at $20 this is a “back up the truck” kind of deal. So good!

The lightning is the acidity. Wet stone, crackling minerals, tangy, piquant citrus. There’s a level of complexity that makes us think of green mangoes, almonds, lemon/lime, sweet lemon rind (a little bit of the pith, too -- the white part - super cool)...nice richness and length....there’s a bit of Semillon in here that lends a bit of texture to the super-bright freshness. 2016 is such a fantastic vintage...PLEASE, you gotta be sipping this ASAP. Get a cheese board and you’re SET. OK -- off to the pool (yeah, right). While it lasts..!

Château Baret is an up-and-coming wine property in the Graves sub-appellation, owned by the Borie-Manoux negociant company. Borie-Manoux itself is one of Bordeaux's oldest merchant houses and belongs to the Castéjà family, who are also proprietors of the celebrated Pauillax Classified growth Chateau Haut-Batailley.

During the last twenty years, the vineyard, the vat room and the cellars have been fully rehabilitated and refurbished.
