Petroni Vineyards Sangiovese Poggio alla Pietra Vineyard Moon Mountain District 2014 - Last Bottle

Petroni Vineyards Sangiovese Poggio alla Pietra Vineyard Moon Mountain District 2014

$92. That’s what the world (and the winery) wants you to pay for Petroni’s stunning Poggio alla Pietra Sangiovese 2014. And, not gonna lie, up until about two months ago, I would have said…”who?” But when a handful of these showed up across our tasting bar, I gained a whole new appreciation for the potential of sangiovese on Sonoma’s iconic Moon Mountain. This...was…EPIC!

** Also…FREE GROUND SHIPPING on today’s offer (we’ll just add it to your Marathon haul)! Please also allow us several weeks to get to all states (up to 6 weeks). All orders will be shipped from our West Coast warehouse. **

93 POINTS from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate! UNDER $25! What bizarro world, blue-pill life simulation is this? Gloriously fresh, beautifully floral, hyper-charged with cherries, berries, plums, and ALL the fantastic red fruits you can imagine – a just flat-out delicious Brunello-esque BEAST of Cali-Italian perfection! Orange peel too! And saddle leather, fennel seed, cigar box, oh my!!! 9 years young and simply singing…this wine stopped us all in our tracks when we tasted it! That PRICE!!! I dare you to put this in your next Brunello/Chianti tasting – you’ll be stunned.

Vintner Lorenzo Petroni was born just outside of Florence, leaving at 17 for San Francisco with a few bucks in his pocket and a dream to make wines to rival Brunello in California. He eventually found the perfect plot in Sonoma’s Moon Mountain AVA and for the last 30 years, he’s made wines from vines that he smuggled in a suitcase over from Tuscany. Want to really have your mind blown?!?! Lorenzo convinced THE Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino to let him use the name “Brunello” on some of his bottlings! How’s that for a FLEX?

Poggio alla Pietra (the hill of stones) is Petroni’s estate vineyard, and these sangiovese grosso clones are thriving up here on Moon Mountain. 20% new oak, for 18 months rounds out all that percolating red fruit flavor – adding a smattering of spice that gives this an unreal depth. The tannins are silky soft now, but with plenty of life for another seven plus years…but trust me, pop a bottle of this as soon as it lands on your porch – and you’ll immediately be kicking yourself you didn’t get more! 93 POINTS!!! FREE SHIPPING!!! UNDER $25!!! Wow…I’m dizzy…how do we do it?!

** P.S. – Y’all absolutely ROCKED our world for this year’s Holiday Marathon! We love every single one of you like family. Hope you LOVE your wines, and thanks for everything! **

About The Producer

Founder Lorenzo Petroni’s dream was to craft a California Sangiovese to rival the coveted Brunello di Montalcino. So, at the ripe age of 17, he left his hometown of Lucca and set out for San Francisco with only a few dollars in his pocket and a woman’s pant suit (true story). He worked his way up the ladder at a North Beach restaurant, and escaped to Sonoma Valley on the weekends. There, he found the perfect piece of land to plant his Sangiovese vines. After 30 years of developing the property, Lorenzo packed his vines in suitcases and smuggled them to Italy, and convinced the Italian Brunello Consorzio to allow him to use the Brunello name on his Moon Mountain Sangiovese.
