Cobblestone Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Atlas Peak Napa Valley 2016

Ok, we’ll get to the wine in a second, peeps, it’s a GOOD ONE...but first, the man behind the vine. Show of hands, who’s heard of Saul Levine? Who? Yeah, that’s what I said.

But y’all...check this: He’s a 95-year-old REBEL of the airwaves – the last independent operator of a big-time FM radio station in L.A. holding out and refusing to sell for over 60+ years! Where are my Hollywood scriptwriters at? [Awkward silence...solidarity, brothers and sisters.] He made a deal with the U.S. Forest Service back in the 50s to rent some land on top of Mt. Wilson, overlooking the L.A. Basin. Starting with some pawn shop-style broadcasting gear attached to a flagpole, he cleared the brush himself to drop in antennae and has kept the music flowing ever since! His success allowed him to buy a little chardonnay vineyard in Salinas in 1971 and he’s been making small amounts of wine under the Cobblestone brand for decades! Guess what...IT ROCKS!

So yeah, let’s do this…NAPA CABERNET SAUVIGNON, people! OVER 65% OFF! Saul and his wife, Anita, added a spot on Atlas Peak to their collection in 1997 and have been making this estate-grown cabernet sauvignon since 2001. Up at 1500 feet, this is a structured, beautifully layered, mountain cabernet with gob-smacking intensity and impenetrable depth. Rich mocha, my sister’s blackberry pie (Best in Show at the O.C. Fair!), plus violets, crème de cassis, oodles of black cherry...just lights out DELISH! Big and beastly, with a brawny, intense finish that will carry this wine into the next decade – easy!

But that price! Oh, baby, that’s where it gets cray-cray...ONLY $25? For single vineyard Napa cab? That’s a $55 savings for the mathematically impaired (no shame, I used a calculator). Cabernet from Napa, in the remarkable 2016 vintage, no less, simply shouldn’t exist at this price...especially at this level of soul-satisfying, gut-wrenching delectable-ness! Trust me, this is going to rock your world! Raise a glass to Saul, and get as much as you can...while it lasts!

Named after the round stones found in its first vineyard, Cobblestone utilizes the most advanced wine-making technology, using grape varietals best suited for the wine produced. There are three vineyards dedicated to the world's most exciting grape varieties, coupled with appropriate French Oak for aging.

About The Producer

The original vineyard of 50 acres in the cool Central Coast of California from the Arroyo Seco appellation produces a dry, vibrant Chardonnay with just a hint of French Oak.

In 1997, a second 25 acre vineyard was added in the appellation called Atlas Peak, located on a mountain range at about 1,500 feet above sea level on the East side of Napa Valley. The volcanic soil, elevation, and climate conditions produce a world class Cabernet Sauvignon and a small allotment of Petit Verdot.
