Chimney Rock Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Ganymede Stags Leap District Napa Valley 2015

Cellar raiders, MOUNT UP! As fast as you can, because this is so depressingly limited, we just know many of you are going to miss out. Who’s got the fastest fingers this fine Thursday morning? We’ll soon see. STAGS LEAP. GANYMEDE VINEYARD. 94 POINTS from Vinous. And...wait for it...63% OFF, good people!

Galloni and I don’t always see eye to eye on Napa cabs, but he nailed it here.

“The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Ganymede Vineyard captures all the intensity that is typical of these wines at their best, but in a translucent, vibrant style that stands apart from all the other wines in the range. Veins of tannins give the wine energy and tension to play off the dark Stags Leap fruit. There is a purity to the flavors here that is highly appealing. This taut, structured Cabernet is going to need at least a few years in bottle to come into its own.” - Antonio Galloni, September 2017

Guess what? See that date? Welp, “a few years” are UP!!! Seven years youthful, this wine is showcasing all its promise here. NOW. Just...EPIC. This is all estate, 100% cabernet sauvignon, from the winery’s best block in the foothills of the famed Stags Leap District. Named for the cupbearer to the gods, Ganymede is planted on the rich, volcanic loam and alluvial red rock soils that inspire the hallmark structure, power, and richness of the best Stags Leap cabernets. I sure hope you got some already, and don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

This age-worthy cabernet is voluptuously full-bodied with lush, grippy tannins and beguiling aromas of blackberry, black cherry, clove, and violets. The mouthfeel is classically Stags Leap – inky, and full, with deep and dark fruits, berry jams, baked earth, and plenty of barrel spice. Not-for-the-shy, in other words. But if you love classically bold and unapologetic Napa, this is a cabernet to satisfy all those impulses. At $130 less than what the winery sells it? It dizzies the senses. Hope you got three, at least!

In January of 1610 Galileo Galilei discovered and named Jupiter’s largest moon: Ganymede. It is the largest moon in the solar system. It is startling to imagine the patience and skill that was required for early astronomers to behold the stars above and create a sense of understanding around our solar system and its order.

Our 2015 Ganymede Vineyard Cabernet is vibrant with notes of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and cocoa. It is highlighted with hints of toffee and vanilla, creating a seductively complex aromatic profile.

About The Producer

"Established in 1980 by Hack and Stella Wilson, they brought their love of wine and South African winery architecture to the Napa Valley. And since our acquisition and involvement, we have built on that foundation and advanced the quality of every aspect of the estate and its wines. We have worked hand-in-hand with our team to elevate Chimney Rock to its potential. Focusing on intelligent and sustainable farming and grape growing, along with a soft-handed and thoughtful approach to winemaking led by Winemaker, Elizabeth Vianna, we strive to allow the unique and magnificent Stags Leap District soil and fruit to show themselves in their best light. Through this thoughtful and sustainable approach, our estate has built a reputation for consistently crafting unique wines of exceptional quality that show a true sense of place."
