P&L Borgeot Puligny-Montrachet Les Meix 2017 - Last Bottle

P&L Borgeot Puligny-Montrachet Les Meix 2017

We’re getting dead-serious and intense today (at great pricing, of course, that will never change) with an awesome bottle of Puligny-Montrachet we discovered on our last trip to France. White Burgundy in general is a near-never occurrence here at LB, mostly due to the exceedingly small quantities of these great wines being made, but this one just landed in our Napa warehouse --- so fresh, so palate-tingling...oh BABY! So we are STOKED today --- wow wow WOW!!

AHH!! Forget it! So, a few things -- 1- Terrific vintage. 2017 is VERY small in quantity, but of very fine quality. 2 -- This is single-vineyard Puligny-Montrachet from the Les Meix vineyard, located just below the famed premier cru “Les Pucelles”. The vines are 50+ years old! 3- The Borgeot family has been making wine since 1903, this is the fourth generation of winemakers, in the village of Remigny, and they farm organically. 4- The Price!

Ah, but let us regale you on the WINE, the glorious wine (it is, after all, sitting on our desk next to a breakfast burrito). It’s SO fun to drink and describe white Burg...this wine hits you with crushed rocks, tightly wound citrus fruit, peach pit, roasted nuts on the nose --- in your mouth, it’s like a bolt of electric current cutting through peaches, lemon and grapefruit flavors, with more toasted nuts and flowers, honey and nutmeg swinging in on the finish. Wonderful, lovely, refreshing and so CLEAN and pure. Excellent!! Excellent price --- for single-vineyard Puligny?? C’mon!!

Needless to say, there is very little -- PLEASE jump on it quick! Special occasion Chardonnay from one of the best places on earth to grow it!

Lovely girdle of acidity that will ask for a few years in the cellar to blossom. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a mix of white peach, apple, spring flowers, chalky soil tones, lemon peel and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, long and quite impressively racy in personality, with a fine core, very good focus and grip and a long, nascently complex and zesty finish.

About The Producer

The Borgeot family started the winery back in 1903. Today, brothers Pascal and Laurent are fourth generation winemakers. They are in the village of Remigny, near Santenay. Together, they work 48 acres of vines, half in red, half in white. Most of their vines are 30 years old or older, with parcels of Santenay ‘Vieilles Vignes’ and Puligny Montrachet older than 50 years. For over twenty years, their vines have received only organic fertilizers. They work the soil in winter to keep down weeds and increase micro-bacteriological activity. Where they have replanted, they have chosen strains of vines that are low yielding. All these policies are aimed at bringing the harvest to full and perfect maturity.
