DeLorimier Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Barrel Select Alexander Valley 2014

Quick story: ALEXANDER VALLEY CABERNET. ALMOST 60% OFF. Extreme yum factor. Toasty, velvety. Not a lot. That is all.  (oh, and hurry)

Long story: Driving up Hwy 128, past the funky Jimtown store, is DeLorimier. A small “boutique” winery that sells its wine almost entirely via their tasting room, we were immensely happy to see a bottle come across our old tasting bar and fill our sense with rich toasty Cabernet, oh yes!! Then we got to work doing what we do and scored a GNARLY-killer deal on it --- don’t miss!

We hope that in the near future, there will be a service in which we could send you a taste sample directly into your brain, maybe via a chip in your head or some such. Then you could taste the currant-y fruit and jammy blackberry pie flavors that we are currently enjoying here at our desk, and the baking spice, and the cocoa-y, earthy essence along with the rich silky mouthfeel. FANTASTIC to drink hedonistic Cabernet like this at this price!! Move quick -- not a lot! Have a great weekend!

Tantalizing aromatics of dark toasty oak, ripe dark cherry and rich, creamy French vanilla invite you into this elegant wine. The youthful tannins introduce the palate, but with a little air they soon integrate, allowing the wine’s beauty to step forward. As the wine opens, black cherry, currant and plum merge to form a dense, juicy core that lingers into the finish. Toasty vanillin oak, cedar, a hint of cocoa and an earthy essence lace through the luscious fruit, providing structure and support while letting the nuanced beauty of the wine shine through. Lovely now, and should be decanted if enjoyed before mid-2017. If patience is on your side, cellar the wine until mid-2019, and then enjoy a bottle every few months to see how it is evolving.

About The Producer

Ken and Diane Wilson always loved the Alexander Valley tucked north of their home in Healdsburg. When the opportunity arose to include deLorimier Winery in their mix of vineyard properties they jumped at the chance. With old vine bordeaux varietals hanging from the vine and the rolling hills of the Alexander Valley surrounding the property, there was no looking back. Even the rocky Russian River banks at the base of the property called their name. This gorgeous estate property is large enough to house weddings and large events and the harvest full moon rising over the property stole their hearts.

In creating the new deLorimier wines wine maker Antoine Favero works closely with owner and wine maker Diane Wilson. Both agree that the wines need to capture the spirit of the vineyard. To do this, they use winemaking techniques such as cold soaking and employ traditional French techniques such as pigeage (punch down), remontage (pump over) and extended maceration, utilizing indigenous yeast whenever possible. This elevates flavors and captures the essence of the grapes.
