Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc 214 Napa Valley 2015

Turn us over, we’re DONE. L&R!! An “insider”, locals-fave classic if we’ve EVER seen one. Amazing price! 92 POINTS! Load up, we say!! 50% OFF -- only bummer is how many cases we have...this is a serious, delicious, single-vineyard that MUST be tasted (and you'll want to put a few in the wine rack for special occasions)! WOW!

John and Tracey Skupny are the affable, fascinating, congenial and generous winemakers behind this much-beloved Napa producer of world-class Cabernet Franc, and those words could easily describe their luscious, classy, lithe and can’t-put-it-down wines (they make a superb Chenin Blanc, too). You’ve probably had it at your favorite local higher-end restaurant --- somms love it, as Cab Franc (especially this warm, spicy one) has plenty of food-pairing possibilities. Here at Last Bottle, we drink it with and without food, and have (for a decade) considered it the go-to on many a local wine list (Ciccio, we love you) Anyway, the wine! You are going to LOVE it and wish you bought a few more...

The Two-Fourteen is a single-clone, single-vineyard Cabernet Franc (from the heralded Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard, no less) and in the bright, warm 2015 vintage it sings with juicy, fresh, raspberry extract, crushed flowers, violet, cool cherries, scintillating “forest floor” notes, mineral, and a dash of complex spices (think spearmint, maybe, or lavender…). EXCEPTIONAL, terrific price...what can we say? We love you L&R! Wow!

Tracey & John Skupny started Lang & Reed Wine Company in 1996 with the goal to explore the distinct charms of Cabernet Franc and to craft wines that are both expressive and enjoyable to drink.

About The Producer

The foundation of their wine experience began almost 40 years ago while working in the restaurant trade in Kansas City. They were trained in the classics: fine wine, fine food, and fine service. Having attained positions as wine stewards (sommeliers), the lure of vineyards and wineries brought them to California in 1980, settling finally in the Napa Valley by 1984.

The Skupnys became intrigued by the magnitude of distinction Cabernet Franc held from notable wine regions in France: Loire Valley and Bordeaux. The early 80’s in Napa Valley found vintners utilizing Bordeaux varieties as components of their red wine blends, and Cabernet Franc was a key varietal. Its critical contribution led Tracey and John to explore the broad range of aromatics and flavors emerging from Cabernet Franc.

Inspired on this journey, the Skupnys set out to produce a Cabernet Franc that was ‘true to type’, redolent in aroma, and pure in flavor with, structure and balance. In 1993, a prototype was crafted, Lang & Reed Wine Company was born, and the rest is history.
