Man O`War Bellerophon Syrah 2014
Did you feel the disturbance in the Force?
Get out your lightsaber -- this is not for the faint of heart and you are about to enter into a maelstrom of soaring, wicked-powerful, 96-POINT, dark side Syrah like you have never quite experienced. Those of you who remember this Man O’War wine we offered early last year, well, you know what this beast is all about. The lovely thing is, with all its power and extraction and concentration, it has FRESHNESS. It has minerality and savoriness like you might expect from something from the northern Rhone, with a distinctly New Zealand profile.
HOLD. ON!! Man O'War hails from the pristine eastern end of Waiheke Island in New Zealand, and the winery is quickly becoming a rockstar producer. Did we mention 96 points from Aussie/NZ Master of Wine Bob Campbell? Swanky and exuberant fruit (crushed raspberries and raspberry compote), deep, dark, toasted peppercorns and mocha, caramel and licorice, this wine is perfumey (inhale it!), concentrated, full-bodied for sure, and all in proportion. A SUPER-COOL score for us (and you, at our wicked price…), so our advice, besides moving as fast as you can, is….make love, not war…! But do it with Man O’War! Or something like that!!
