Broccardo Barolo I Tre Pais 2020
BROCCARDO! Sweet December madness, where did you come from? It was Halloween last week, I’m almost certain! But winter is definitely here – just ask the fans in Buffalo who got paid to shovel out their own stadium before the Niners/Bills game on Sunday – and nothing…NOTHING tastes better on a chilly winter night than young BAROLO! This is a relatively new producer – three brothers got it all started in 2009 – but that was only after DECADES of top-notch grape growing from both their parents and grandparents, going back to the 1970s.
100% nebbiolo, with the Tre Pais PART referencing the Monforte d’Alba, Barolo (town), and Novello sites that provide all of this delectable, spicy, crunchy, and pristinely perfumed nebbiolo goodness. Tar & Roses? You BET! Plus other classically nebbiolo and Barolo markers – from pencil lead to orange pith, black tea, brandied cherries, and those silky yet substantial tannins that coat every crevice across your palate. YOWZA, this is good! Wine Enthusiast made this a Cellar Selection – calling out its “harmonious balance” and “serious demeanor”, while James Suckling used his favorite code word for a wine that he absolutely LOVES…WALNUTS!!! If that doesn’t make this a sure thing…our UNBEATEABLE under $30 price will certainly seal the deal!
Barely enough to send an offer, and this BAROLO is straight BUSSIN! Double 93 POINTS, people…go, go, GOOO!!!

“Cellar Selection - This wine strikes a harmonious balance between red fruit, herbal notes, and an exotic blend of spice, rosewood, and floral tones. The palate is chewy, yet delightfully so, showcasing a push and pull dynamic that is both giving and demanding, inviting you to delve deeper. It possesses a serious demeanor, underpinned by great structure that speaks to its crafted sophistication. Drink 2026 - 2045.”

“Vivid aromas of red berries, cherries, red currants, citrus peel and rose hips, as well as hints of tea leaves and walnuts. Medium-bodied, racy and spiced on the palate, with lightly chewy tannins. Vibrant and very expressive Barolo.”
~James Suckling
Tre Pais speaks to the three municipalities of vineyards blended here – Monforte d’Alba, Barolo proper, and Novello. High elevations vineyards providing that classico nebbiolo structure and perfume, blended for a softness and approachability that makes this shine even young!
